About the Book

2028: Year of the Apocalypse? is a prediction of a third world war between the major powers of our day about the year 2028 but certainly around the end of this decade. The book thereby follows quite a number of writings about such an event although these, for the most part, did not predict a specific time frame. The author came to decide on that specific year based on the Bible’s Book of Revelation, the final book in Holy Scripture, and other sources. The major belligerents in that world-wide struggle will be the United States, Russia, China, North Korea, Israel, and Iran. Its outcome will leave hundreds of millions dead, entire continents ravaged, and all the major cities in ruin. The United States, the world’s most powerful nation, is destined to play a central role in the race to the abyss because it is a military empire and, typical of such empires, it began with a war, is maintained by war, and will perish in war. The popular notion that the United States, because of its pursuit of freedom and democracy puts it under the special protection of Providence, is mostly likely a myth. It will not be spared the tribulation to come.

While the views expressed are often described as fatalism, i.e., the belief that all events are predetermined by fate or destiny and the ultimate outcome will remain the same regardless of what actions individuals or nations may take, this author maintains that the ultimate catastrophe can still be avoided if world leaders do the right thing including trying to understand their opponents’ fears and aspirations and addressing these in a constructive way. This must include major concessions where necessary. Foremost, world leaders must come to realize that by their belligerent words and conduct they are playing with fire – atomic fire. The book ends with a plea for peace and suggestions on what is necessary to bring it about.

About the Author

Peter Zell, his mother and siblings came to America from their native Germany in 1950 when he was 13 years old settled in Oak Park, a Chicago suburb. After earning an engineering degree at the University of Illinois and serving with the U.S. Army Reserve on active duty for two years, the author employed by the NASA as an engineer. In 1968, he returned to school earning an MBA degree at Columbia University in New York. There followed a career in international marketing and sales management with a number of multinational companies. When his aged mother developed health problems, he returned to the U.S. from Europe and while taking care of her for about ten years worked locally in retail. After her passing, the author moved to a retirement community northwest of Phoenix where he has lived since 2003 enjoying reading, writing, and travel.
