About the Book

The purpose of this book is to present situations and to highlight and look back on historical events. “Guaymí” is a short story whose goal is to expand knowledge on the life and culture of the Taíno indigenous peoples, the original settlers of the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo (Hispaniola) and Cuba. It is based on the life of Yuquere, a Taíno boy, and his horse. The story’s expressiveness is further enhanced by illustrations that I have created myself, offering scenes of realism that transport us back to the historical world of the Taíno. I have written it with love, hope and creativity, and in the goal of exalting the values of our Taíno heritage.
