About the Book

Twenty-five- year-old Cassie Cramer has quit her teaching job and is now living back home in a dilapidated tenement with her eccentric family. Sebastian, Cassie’s unemployed boyfriend, a proud, card- carrying member of the ACLU and the Underground Anarchist Society, is under surveillance by the FBI for his far-left manifestos advocating violent insurrection, and the overthrow of government. The president has just declared war on Iran, the Middle East is in turmoil, and America is under high alert for terrorism. Meanwhile, back in Somerville, New Jersey, Cassie’s mother’s dream of winning a million dollars in the lottery has come true, but when tragedy strikes, the ticket is lost in the chaos. Cassie’s life takes another sharp turn when Mary Gallager, a roommate from college, calls in the middle of the night, with a strange request. Cassie agrees to meet Mary the next day at Starbucks Coffee House. It is there she learns Sebastian has been hit by a speeding car carrying ICE agents in pursuit of illegal immigrants. Although he landed on his head, Sebastian insists he is fine. Desperate to leave the hospital so he can resume his political activism against the war, he calls Mary who helps him escape. A weird romance blossoms but is cut short when Sebastian is later kidnapped by terrorists planning to bomb the community. Events quickly unfold in this wacky political and social satire that will leave readers surprised and amused by the unexpected, hilarious conclusion.
