About the Book

Kevin Foster, a young, San Francisco stockbroker, is devastated to learn that his brother, Harry, also a stockbroker, has suddenly and mysteriously died of what is reported as a heart attack. But was it really a heart attack or was it murder? In an attempt to investigate his brother’s death Kevin transfers to the office where Harry had worked over the objections of the local manager, Victor Holdbein. Thanks to the support of Montgomery Lynch, the West Coast regional manager of their firm and the help of an attractive cashier, Cindy Arthur, with whom he becomes romantically involved, Kevin discovers that Holdbein is laundering money for a drug dealer, Juan Santos.

In a chilling late night confrontation with Holdbein and Santos, Kevin gasps with  astonishment as Santos suddenly turns on Holdbein and fires a gas shell in his face. The manager dies, apparently of a heart attack. Santos admits that he has murdered Kevin's brother using the same weapon and the same technique. Kevin is forced to agree to deliver bearer bonds to Santos in an isolated place because Santos has kidnapped and is holding Cindy hostage.

After the exchange of the bonds for Cindy, it’s touch and go for Kevin and Cindy as Santos tries to kill them both but luckily they escape. Using a tracking device that he has implanted with the bonds, Kevin and the police are able to follow Santos to a palatial mansion where he is reporting to his superior in the drug ring. Kevin is amazed to discover that Santos' boss is someone he knows well. A shootout follows and Kevin barely escapes death a second time as he returns Santos’ fire, killing him. The police handcuff and arrest Santos’ boss.
