About the Book

The year is 2012. Not so far away. A group of Chinese astronomers have spotted a very distant object that seems to be heading in the general direction of Earth. Further investigation reveals that it is a distant and uncharted asteroid which is as large as the North American continent. It is heading for Earth at the alarming speed of 142,000 miles per hour.

Brian De Voe, a paraplegic computer wizard, has intercepted a top secret coded communications between the US and China while testing his new high speed interceptor system. When he sees the information he has “borrowed” he realizes he has stumbled into one of the greatest cover-ups of all time. He shares the information with his business partner, David Starr, and David’s astronomer wife, Elizabeth. Elizabeth confirms Brian’s suspicions, that the Earth is being threatened by a huge cosmic rock. Realizing that the world has no practical defense against such a catastrophe, Brian suddenly realizes he may have illegally accessed information about a much earlier government project that might just be the technology they need to divert the giant asteroid.

Risking arrest, Brian takes his plan to Washington, where President Darnell Alexander and his staff embrace it as the only viable hope they have of redirecting the massive chunk of space flotsam. The only drawback to the plan is the unnerving fact that the last time the government had tried using that technology they ruined an entire ship, including its crew, and very nearly plunged the entire world, perhaps even the entire universe, into an enormous wormhole. This time, they hoped, they had computers fast enough to keep up with the incredible fluctuations in energy that were produced during the use of that technology.

Crystal Dellascota, nicknamed “The Light Lady” by Newsweek magazine, and her assistant, Barbara, find themselves dragged into the project, along with Captain Everett Trent, the only pilot in NASA’s less than successful Falcon space plane project. Headed by Dr. Carl Dune, the entire system has to be ready and functional in six weeks.

While those within the project race to save the world, Ted Dormain, the director of the FBI, falls prey to a mania in which the two other personalities within him begin to take control. The Shadow Man, a manifestation of The Little Boy, takes control and begins to form his own homicidal plans.

The project has its ups and downs. On the first test of the new system the energy again goes out of control, and by the time it is shut off, one scientist’s fingers are suddenly on backwards, and Carl Dune finds he has switched from being right-handed to being a southpaw. The Falcon continues to have difficulties as well. And, to make matters worse, news of how dire the situation really is have leaked to the general populace, who go on a world wide rampage.

Crystal and Everett find themselves being drawn together romantically. Barbara fights to maintain her sanity in the ever increasing pressure, as does the President’s science advisor, Marsh Wandell. All the while Ted “The Shadow Man” Dormain slips deeper into insanity.

Crewed by Everett, Crystal, Brian, and the Chinese astronomer, Dr. Soo En Loo, the Falcon is prepared for its mission. Upon confronting the approaching menace the crew becomes party to an incredible reality, while those back on Earth are given their own mind boggling revelations.

Not for the weak of heart, I guarantee that, whether you like this book or not, you won’t ever forget it!
