About the Book

This fascinating story takes place in the nation of Kromaine, a land located in the North Atlantic Ocean near Canada. Throughout the story the reader will experience how the climate effects the direction of the story. The characters live in the northern part of the country in the Decalontic District. In this sparsely populated territory, the long winter inundates the undeveloped land and tundra with snow, sometimes twenty-five inches within six hours. The scenery is painted with snowy landscapes in the small towns and the wilds.

Shine On Northern Starlight, is a rich story with adventure, thrills and romance. Plenty of brawling all the way, too. To make a metaphor or simile: the story is a sprawling soap opera, where the characters scheme, dish the dirt, and some play quite rough. The numerous characters in the story have distinctive personalities and are easy to identify or remember.

There is a substantial amount of turmoil going on in this book, it will not bore and is a real page-turner. Though the tale is entirely fiction it reflects reality. As in real life people find themselves pigeon holed in one category or another, whether they want to be identified with such or not. Consequently individuals or groups clash. This book reflects that to some degree. The novel highlights camaraderie, caustic squabbles, heroism, love, debauchery and hate. All the emotions that go with life and the pursuit of whatever an individual may be after. The two main characters are Jacob Ashscott and Melanie Brinkley. Both these people are deeply in love with each other. At times the reader may be of the opinion the couple are not compatible. They have frequent quarrels, but their love endures all the travail.

Jake Ashscott is a carefree, successful salesman working in an electronic and appliance store. Jake so to speak, has a lot going for him. He is tall, handsome, muscular, well to do, and has the most (in his eyes) beautiful girl in all the world for a girlfriend. When not engaged at his place of employment, Hometown V. Appliance, Jake is an avid outdoorsman, sportsman, and carouser. However, he is a stand by his woman, man, and never cheats on Melanie.

Melanie Brinkley is a twenty-year-old ravishing beauty, with blond hair and emerald green eyes. Worth thirty million dollars, to say the least: she is a spoiled pampered rich girl, who learns a lesson along the way, plus gives a few as well. Melanie is extremely intelligent, willful, and is at times snooty, with an air head viewpoint, derived from her sheltered lifestyle.

The couple lives separately in a small town by the name of Izetoner. Izetoner is a vibrant little town. The Orion Spinners Club, which the reader will get to know, is featured as the main center of entertainment. Jake and Melanie, hang out there with their friends, and attend functions, parties, and balls.

Quite a bit of the adventurous soap opera, involves a wilderness park - Northern Reserve Keystone Park, where Jake goes to ice fish, snowmobile, and gets involved with other activities.

Readers will make visits with the characters to the city of Sharpstown (the hub of the Decalontic District) and the village of Riverville as well. Ironically Jake Ashscott’s best friend is a working class woodcutter, and part time tourist guide by the name of Pierre LeBlanc. The friendship is a classic case of opposites attract. Whereas Jake Ashscott lives in a stately apartment building, Pierre LeBlanc lives back, way back, in the backwoods, in an add on house that originally started as a cottage. Pierre enlarged the cottage to house his wife, and the three children who came later.

Weekend outdoor excursions at Northern Reserve Keystone Park call the two friends together. Jake Ashscott’s blissful weekend of ice fishing is abruptly halted. A gang of four ruthless psychopaths whom are hauling drugs and smuggling furs makes a stop at Jake’s campsite. One of the gang was a former mech
