About the Book

Flyaway On Mystery And Magic

Visit the city of Sharpstown and follow a mysterious and adventurous romp. The mystery involves crimes that are taking place on Opuler Street, especially in the disposal lot behind Swenson’s Hardware Store. The crimes are petty in nature – occur only after darkness falls, and at times, may seem somewhat half-baked – though it is possible that there may be more substance here than meets the eye.

The adventure centers around two kids and their varied activities. MEET eight-year-old Kathy Grimes and seven-year-old Bobby Lemcek, who are best friends. They live in the same apartment building – several stories high – and whose address is 1988 Granger Street. It just so happens that these children are big spenders. They spend all their allowance right after they receive it. In consequence, Kathy and Bobby have found a way to earn extra money – utilizing their own initiative. They do this by collecting soda bottles and cans, the discarded and empty ones, from the recycling containers and trashcans, which are conveniently situated in the parking lots, plottages and on the sidewalks throughout the city. Plus these youngsters, always opportunistic, will have snatched a stray shopping cart – to serve them admirably as a handy hauler. When the cart becomes filled, the kids turn their collection into a recycling station and receive payment.

The place that has the largest stash of recycles is the disposal lot behind Swenson’s Hardware Store. There are empties galore inside the containers. Needless to say, the lot – behind Swenson’s, is the kids’ most favorite stop.

However, by the time the children reach their most favored place, it is dark outside. As it turns out, this is the wrong time and the wrong place for Kathy and Bobby to harvest soda bottles and cans, at this spot, despite that it is a rich spot. Owing to the fact that an elderly woman frequently menaces the youngsters. The woman wears black clothing all the time. When the mood suits her, she’ll don a black bonnet as well. It is her crown of the ebony habit – so to speak.

This woman, in question, follows an unchanging pattern of appearing before Kathy and Bobby only at nighttime, and only upon Opuler Street, especially in the disposal lot behind Swenson’s. This preference that she has, for nocturnal maneuvering and sticking about a locale of such negligible proportion, decidedly gives her a mysterious aura. Not to mention the dread that falls over the kids – whenever they spy the woman – and typically, she emerges near the recycling containers behind Swenson’s. Yet she doesn’t reveal herself until after the children have collected their goods; then she steals everything that the boy and girl have gathered. The woman is also after money. She forcibly picks the children’s pockets.

As the circumstances have inferred, Kathy and Bobby do not know the real name of this woman of nefarious character. So they have dubbed her with the appellation of Grubby Mary. Be that as it may, Grubby Mary is undoubtedly – the most madcap villainess to ever dash through the night – and quite often with a shopping cart, no less!

Complexly the children have no idea where Grubby Mary hangs her bonnet for residence. Hunch wise, Kathy and Bobby believe that Grubby Mary lives in a basement near Swenson’s Hardware Store. The basement is a secret hiding place, as Kathy and Bobby tell it. In any event, Kathy and Bobby are determined to find out where Grubby Mary does reside, since the woman routinely purloins them. Once Kathy and Bobby find the location of Grubby Mary’s hideout, they intend to inform the police and have her arrested.

Stanley Lemcek is Bobby’s uncle. Uncle Stanley is bringing up Bobby. He has been divorced for several years. Since the divorce, Stanley Lemcek has careened
