He made it part of her job to inspect. She didn’t have red hair for nothing. One of these days it would get her into trouble. That day came when she was hired as secretary to David Mannering, who was noted for constantly dismissing his secretaries, and not always nicely. She stood her ground and said, “I can see why you call them incompetent. You probably scare them all half to death.” She could give as well as take. Something that had never happened to him before. What a way to start a job! Surprisingly, her words pleased him, in spite of the anticipated clashes.

She had her hooks into him, but good. In order to hold his own, he paraded a stately blonde before her at every opportunity. To his surprise, it didn’t work. Jealous of other men who took an interest in her, he eliminated them one by one. He made it part of her job to see a house he planned to buy, then return after his purchase to give him decorating ideas.

In spite of the sparks that constantly ignited between them, He was finally able to persuade her they belonged together.
