About the Book

The marble fragment burns in her hand; The visions and dreams she tried to suppress, consigning them to hazy memories of her youth, blurr Jenny’s present with the past. But whose past? Hers, or of the woman, whose face is on the marble and on the enamel portrait of the amulet in her hands? Whose face is carved on the centuries old tomb in an obscure village in northern Iraq? Why is her old family name carved beneath it? Why are shadows from some distant past intruding again into her life? For many decades she refused to believe there could be any connection between herself and a centuries old a look-alike. She closed her mind to the strange circumstances that drew her into it all, convincing herself all was a mere coincidence. But as the marble fragment sears her hand, the past engulfs her — her past, or another’s? — and Jenny realizes that she must search for answers to questions she dared not even ask before. Her search begins with the only clue, a name from the ancient tomb in Iraq, same as the name of her immigrant Grandparents, a name that takes her to Eastern Slovakia’s Carpathian Mountains, where it all began. Jenny could never have imagined the world she enters as she finds answers to the mystery.
