About the Book

Military parks, water-based parks and memorials are three groupings of parksites I have defined having drawn them from the several types of parksites that make up the American National Park system. All National Park System parksites, including those in these groupings. preserve, commemorate and interpret for the public a wide variety of historic sites, events, people and natural features. At the time this book is written, the defined groupings include a total of 25 military parks, 31 water-based parks and 31 memorials. I have visited all the military parks, water-based parks and memorials in the National Park System and have been presenting courses on these subjects. These courses consists of photographs and basic information on each parksite as well as comments based on my experiences while visiting the parksites. This book is a somewhat expanded version of the presentation materials used during these courses.
