And old Scottie dog befriends a poor school teacher on the Navajo Reservation. He leads him deep into the desert and directs him to a cache of 16th Century gold doubloons. The old dog expires and is buried by the teacher. In Phoenix, the teacher is shown by a coin shop owner and old log book with lithographic drawings. One is of Coronado sitting astride his horse with his padre standing in front. The date is 1540. And to the teacher’s astonishment, peering out from behind the padre’s frock is the old Scottie dog.
