About the Book

A farmer and his wife make Sammy the scarecrow and put him in the cornfield to scare away the birds. The problem is that Sammy loves the birds and they love him because he is so friendly. When the farmer decides Sammy is the worst scarecrow he has ever made, the farmer´s wife decides that he will make a fine birdfeeder and moves him into their yard. If there is a moral, it is that in order to do a good job in anything, your heart must be in your work. The book is beautifully illustrated by Gillian Wells.
