About the Book

“About The Book” This is a collection of autobiographical short stories that tell about how it was for a young child and teenager growing up in the then small town of Kokomo, Indiana. My children had asked several times for my life’s story. I was not pleased with my attempts in narrative form. It became too involved. I remembered the fascinating stories my grandpa had told my brother and me, and the wonderful way he had of telling them years before, of his young days during and after the Civil War. For my stories, I just stepped back in time, wrote fast and furiously as I watched them roll before my mind’s eyes once again. Quite a few stories began on a computer program called The Blog, on son’s web log on his web page. They tell how food was kept fresh; how important messages were received; trash collection, and even bathrooms, or not as the case was too often! School days, teachers. Showers and lot more of how it was once. When I began to get fan mail on the Blog and request for a book of the stories I decided to act on it! The Cardinal Song is the results. I hope you enjoy it.
